Why a commission instead of a subscription?
Because it keeps us on the same side: we earn when you sell. Quiet months cost you nothing, and a shop that starts slowly has no monthly bill to catch up with.
It suits seasonal businesses especially well: a chocolatier who sells mostly at Easter and Christmas, a vineyard that sells after harvest, a farm that sells meat boxes a few times a year.
When does a subscription work out cheaper?
To be straight with you: if you sell a lot online every month, a subscription platform can cost less in fees. It does mean building, hosting and running the shop yourself.
Our comparisons show the sums platform by platform, using checked public prices.
Pricing questions
Does the 5% include card processing fees?
No. The 5% is our commission. Stripe, which processes the payment, charges its own fee on each transaction, for example 1.5% + 20p for a standard UK card. Both are shown clearly; nothing is hidden.
Are there setup, launch or cancellation fees?
No. Setup, adding your products, hosting and updates are included. There's no monthly fee, no minimum sales and no fee to leave.
How is the commission collected?
Automatically, at the moment of payment, through Stripe. There's no monthly invoice to pay: you receive the sale amount minus our commission and Stripe's fee.
Does the commission apply to delivery charges?
The commission applies to the amount your customer pays for the order. If you charge for delivery, that's part of it.
What if I sell nothing for a month?
Then you pay nothing that month. That's the point of having no monthly fee, especially for seasonal businesses.
What happens with refunds?
You can refund a customer from your Stripe account. How fees are handled follows Stripe's rules and our terms of service.
