The maths

How we worked it out.

Three examples, line by line, with the published prices above.

Illustrative example

€1,500: 30 orders of €50 (France)

Square's free plan costs €39 less in fees; you build and run the store yourself.

Add Your Shop: 2.5% × €1,500 = €37.50, + Stripe 1.5% × €1,500 + 30 × €0.25 = €30.00 → €67.50
Square Online Free: 1.4% × €1,500 + 30 × €0.25 → €28.50
Illustrative example

€5,000: 100 orders of €50 (France)

Our commission stops at €49 for the month; Square's free plan is still €54 cheaper.

Add Your Shop: €49 (cap) + Stripe 1.5% × €5,000 + 100 × €0.25 = €100.00 → €149.00
Square Online Free: 1.4% × €5,000 + 100 × €0.25 → €95.00
Illustrative example

€1,500 by Bancontact: 30 orders of €50 (Belgium)

Square doesn't offer card payments in Belgium, so there's no Square figure here. With us, Stripe charges €0.35 per Bancontact payment.

Add Your Shop: 2.5% × €1,500 = €37.50, + Stripe 30 × €0.35 = €10.50 → €48.00

Assumes an average order of €50 and standard European cards (or Bancontact where stated). Your own figures will vary.
